A FAMILY LEGACY - REDISCOVERED

The Road From Karachi is more than a cookbook. It is the story of a family, a journey across continents and a passion for sharing authentic Indian and Pakistani food.
Inside the cookbook, you'll find a collection of traditional recipes inspired by those taught at Riaz and Khalida's cookery school, alongside dishes created by Nadia that celebrate the coming together of two cultures through food.
From family favourites and comforting curries to dishes packed with flavour and tradition, every recipe tells a story and honours the family's remarkable journey.
The original handwritten book was carefully restored with the help of the BBC Repair Shop in 2026, bringing a precious piece of family history back to life and making it possible to share these recipes with a new generation.
Why The Road From Karachi?
The title reflects the family's journey from Karachi to Portsmouth and celebrates the shared legacy of Riaz and Khalida. The name also incorporates their initials, creating a lasting tribute to the people behind the recipes.
More Than a Cookbook
The book is priced at £19.87, honouring the year Riaz and Khalida published their first cookbook.
A proportion of proceeds also supports clean water projects in India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan, helping communities gain access to safe and sustainable water supplies.
Bring the Story to Your Kitchen
Whether you're discovering Indian and Pakistani cooking for the first time or looking to recreate traditional family dishes, The Road From Karachi offers an authentic collection of recipes, culture and history.
